Waiheke Coastguard new boat
It may have been a grey Auckland autumn day, but the smiles on the faces of the Waiheke Coastguard delivery crew brightened the afternoon enormously!
The crew had just brought their new Naiad 10.2m rescue vessel into their home port of Matiatia Bay, Waiheke Island.
The boat is the third of three identical twin diesel jets built recently by Naiad for Coastguard New Zealand units.
Powered by twin Yanmar 315hp engines coupled to Hamilton 274 jets, these are extremely versatile boats, well suited to the variety of roles demanded of a Coastguard rescue vessel.
This boat will lie alongside Matiatia Wharf, from where she will respond to local incidents and play an important role in handling marine emergencies on the wider Hauraki Gulf.
