Kawau Coastguard Launch Function About 100 people attended the official launch function for the new Kawau Coastguard Naiad 10.2m rescue boat. The crowd comprised many Coastguard volunteers from as far afield as Wellington, local supporters, community leaders, and many people who had been involved in the creation and growth of the Kawau Coastguard over the years.President Richard Bray spoke of the support the unit has received from the local community, with many innovative fund-raising events such as their Black Tie Dinner and mid-winter swim. Financial support for the new vessel also came from Pub Charity and ASB Community Trust. Mayor of Rodney district, Penny Webster christened the vessel "Kawau Rescue", and thanked the Coastguard volunteers for their rescue work on the water, and the effort that had gone into this project.
