Oracle Racing Chase Boats

Naiad has a long history with the America's Cup dating back to the 1995 event in San Diego where Naiad supplied support craft for Team New Zealand. Several other syndicates have purchased Naiad's for use as support craft since. For the 2013 America's Cup Challenge Naiad was selected to supply support craft for ORACLE Racing.

In becoming the official supplier to ORACLE Racing for tenders, Naiad worked hard to design a RHIB that would meet the harsh requirement of Yacht racing. There were two classes of yachts, AC72 (Louis Vuitton Cup) and AC45 (World Series). Both had specific requirements and needed different tenders.

For ORACLE Racing's AC72 tenders, Naiad developed a new 12.9 metre stepped-hull design. Powered by twin Yanmar 8LV Series 272Kw (370mHp) diesels coupled to Yanmar ZT370Z drives. These high speed vessels formed the core of ORACLE Racing's support fleet.

ORACLE Racing has two of the 12.9m Naiads in slightly different setups. A hardtop walkaround cabin and a centre console with full sun cover.

All four tenders feature Shockwave shock mitigating seats that provide comfort to the crew during long periods at sea and reduce fatigue leaving the crew ready to respond to any incidents.

Acceleration is a critical aspect of these chase boats. It is vital the chase boats are able to move quickly as the AC72 catamaran yachts are 26.2 metre long, weigh in at 5,900 kg and are capable of extreme speeds.

ORACLE Racing’s AC45 tenders are based on the Naiad 10 metre stepped-hull platform. Many of these hulls are in service in New Zealand and Australia as police and rescue boats.

As with the AC 72 tedners there are two AC45 tenders, both powered by twin Mercury Verado's. One with twin 300Hp, the other with twin 250Hp which gives a top speed of 42 knots and a cruise of 30 knots.

The centre console design offers excellent all round visibility and ease of access to all parts of the boat.

All of these craft have been built by Naiad Inflatables of Newport, on the USA east coast.
