The hull is designed for maximum efficiency, allowing operations to be carried out with minimum wash and providing a cruise speed of approximately 25 knots, with a maximum of 29.5 knots. This gives the ability to board ships at greater speeds meaning a safer transfer of pilots, especially in rougher conditions with the ship quartering the sea and swell and running at the speed of the swell.
This boat can be easily lifted from the water on a single strop, with four heavy lifting points flush mounted in the deck. The rear grate-style platform can be lowered quickly and provides excellent access to the stern, to aid recovery in a man overboard situation.
The ability to manoeuvre easily in a variety of situations, and its smooth ride in rough conditions has impressed many pilots. One pilot remarked, "this boat is far better than we anticipated". Others agreed that they would definitely purchase Naiad again for future Pilot Boats.
